This it what I mean with "you're missing the point": The actual act of blocking TPB does not affect me, but the possible results of it might. If an organization like BREIN can make a provider block a website (and limit your freedom of speech), who's to say big companies can't start blocking out websites or content they don't want to have on the internet?

(...)

Unfortunately BREIN may be laying the very foundation of something that will limit freedom of speech on the internet (much like SOPA).

I highlighted the reasons I'm calling you guys hypocrites. Look, I completely understand your concerns. But it's not true. It MIGHT be in the FUTURE, and I understand that you are worried it will happen. It's like me shooting a bullet through you head now, because you MIGHT have wanted to kill me in the future.

That's like saying that we should start overpolluting the planet again because climate change only MIGHT come in the future.

Actually, no. For the pollution we have proof and we know it's destroying the planet. And even if we didn't have proof, this is about the world which is pretty important that we save it.

Still, no reason to protest against BREIN.

Then I suppose you also would have absolutely no objections against giving a head of state emergency powers when he declares the state of emergency?

He might use them to make the country a dictatorship, but if you use that argument you are a hypocrite, right?

Hitler used his emergency powers to reform the Weimar Replublic into a dictatorship.

Though in a way you have a point, I still think it's a bad attitude to just say "Oh well just let it happen BREIN is right anyway" (which they aren't since they're only doing it for the money). The bullet anology is pretty bad though. See it like this: Companies never bothered to sue ISPs because they thought it wouldn't work anyway. Now that BREIN showed that non-governmental organizations DO have power over the internet, they put a foot in the door for other companies.

And yes, I do use "might" and "maybe" and so on because I'm not saying it happened already. What I'm trying to bring across is that this verdict never should've passed in the first place. Not passing it would've prevented BREIN from getting that foot in the door for possible other companies.

Now you're making assumptions. If you really understood my concern, you'd know that you can't claim "But it's not true", because you do not know if it's true yet.

You can call us hypocrites, but you have no reason to. No one is being a hypocrit in any way, unless one of us has also succesfully sued Ziggo and XS4ALL and I didn't hear about it.

Also, Navo raised a great point.

Guys, lets just make a conclusion.
Those ones who want to pirate - they shall if they want. Those who think the right way and the smartest way to buy stuff - do their way.

Now lets all have a cooldown and watch this Amnesianese music video on PewDiePie's YT page!

Pfff, taking over the internet, muahahahahah. Idiots... mortals.. fools..

Well, I'm off to check on the Skyrim wiki if murdering all of Whiterun (what I just did) will have any consequences for the rest of the story. I don't wanna lose quests and I always heard people say "quests don't change anything in Skyrim", but I'm pretty sure I just made the whole city in a locked up state.

*Goes to Stormcloak page.

Oh great, can't access it, blocked by S.O.P.A.

Wait a minute................................................. you............ you were right all this time?? They... they dare to block a The Elder Scrolls Wiki?????

FUCK THEM! FUCK YOU, MOTHERFUCKING S.O.P.A., MOTHERFUCKING BREIN, MOTHERFUCKING P.I.P.A. OR WHOEVER THE FUCK YOU ARE! FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU, FUCK YOU!

Wha....whaa thw what is THIS? On top of the fucking page?

"STOP S.O.P.A. and P.I.P.A. - http://americancensorship.org/"

THIS ISN'T BY S.O.P.A., BUT THE RETARDS DID IT THEMSELF? THEY FUCKING ACTED LIKE THEY WERE MOTHERFUCKING SOPA OR PIPO AND THEY MOTHERFUCKING BLOCKED THEIR MOTHERFUCKING SELVES OUT OF THEIR MOTHERFUCKING NAMES????? AND YOU CALL THIS FAIR?

This action is only pulling me further from your side, but anyway: it's pretty ironic. YOU people are taking over your OWN internet and BLOCKING it yourSELVES. I should actually be mad at you for the same reason you're mad at them.

Theyre doing it to show what would happen if SOPA & PIPA pass.

Fun fact: Caps lock, in fact, doesn't help you to make your point across, even ironically.

But true. Gandhi was also stupid for starving himself instead of letting the brits do it via shoddy colonial opression.

The industry is trying to change other people so that they can carry on making money using their old methods, when in fact they should change how they market products to solve the problem instead.

As I've said before, people that torrent something normally wouldn't pay for it anyway, mainly because they can't afford to, so if anything its just increasing the in-balance between the rich and poor (as Tim said the other day)

The thing is, what if this never happened, but instead a random organisation were to take over/block the BREIN website? Would you interneteers be raging and protesting against Random Organisation because you are so scared Random Organisation is going to take over the internet? Of course not.

I'm here to cause unrest just because of the one simple fact: I hate those snot-nosed uptight corporate idiots who can and will attempt to cease and desist even the slightest copyright 'infringement', even if it would be protected under the law under, for example, fair use. If SOPA and/or PIPA passes, corporations can not only remove fair use material they deem as an infingement instantly, but to also override the constitution of a sovereign nation. There would about as much democracy working there as in a soviet people's republic.

Secondly, the guys who vote for these things are children of the cold war, with frail grasp of modern internet society, who are simply goaded by lobbers. Unless they are told what their actions will actually accomplish, the poor sods will smear the internet, which was also recently named a human right, with pseudo-righteous bullshit and censorship.

EDIT: Gah, bloody typo.

The difference would be that censoring BREIN's website would be illegal and not endorsed by the state.

What are you, a centaur? If you can look into the future so well, use it for useful things.

I can see this discussion is going nowhere if people start to make up stories about communist-like Cold War children. I could make up some pretty inventive stories as well, but I don't feel like it.

So let's just say you're right about PIPOSOPA taking over your precious internet and turning it into a dictatorship - I yield. I can't take this idiotism no longer and I'll probably jump out the window if I read another story like this again.

SO I accept that fact, okay? BREIN SOPA PIPO taking over the internet, rage rage rage, sob sob sob, serious business, whine whine whine - okay. I won't think about this anymore. Ignore mode turned on and stuff.

I remain very disappointed in a lot of you... from some of you I expected nothing more, but quite a lot of you amaze me. You're spoiled, and you're making excuses for it. We're all rich-ass bastards here, and what are we doing, complaining that we have to pay for things.

I secretly hope all your money and luxury stuff will get robbed from you someday. Let's see if you can get everything back for fucking free.

Your anologies are just plain wrong and you don't want to see it. It's like saying "I always have sex without a condom. Sure, there's a chance that I get an STD, but there's also a chance that I won't get one, so that's what I'm going for".

Same with SOPA/PIPA. If these acts pass, there's a 99.9% chance that companies will start blocking content on the internet. If we follow your logic, SOPA/PIPA shouldn't be protested because there's still a 0.01% chance that companies won't even use it.

Maybe you are different than me, because in cases like these I think it's best to prepare the worst. Blocking TPB is just the first little step in a possible chain reaction of similiar events.

Note that I'm not just raging here because I want TPB to stay online. I don't need the pirate bay and my provider probably won't even block it. I just think the entire situation is shameful and I don't believe the judge who let this verdict pass knows a lot about the internet in general.

Probably my last post in response to BY, his mind won't change and his (in my opinion bad) arguments don't get me to think about the situation.

EDIT: Just read your last post BY, and you must be really, really thick. This is NOT about the fact that we want to pirate copyrighted content. You are missing the point entirely and you're probably better off not responding anymore. Please. For your own sake.

You know what I mean. Just because don't use the word 'might' and frankly don't happen to have much love for american government fiddling with world's affairs doesn't mean I'm playing the oracle of Delphine over here. I'm able and willing to pay for whatever I want to buy from the internets. My concern is about taking down my favourite shows in youtube, for example. There's no need to act the part of Antisthenes among the 'spoiled rich-asses'; We damn well already know that most of us have, are and will commit piracy regardless of the outcome, and none of us are trying to even excuse it.
